• 2. Higher prosecution threshold: The threshold for prosecution for GST offences was recommended to be increased from ₹1 crore to ₹5 crore.

🚆 Railways, Technology & Wildlife Protection
1 ArticleNortheast Frontier Railway Uses AI-Based Gajraj Suraksha and Plan Bee to Reduce Elephant–Train Collisions
- Wildlife Protection: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) uses technology-based warning systems to reduce collisions between trains and wild elephants in vulnerable railway sections and elephant corridors.
- AI-Based Intrusion Detection System: Indian Railways has developed an AI-enabled Intrusion Detection System (IDS), also known as Gajraj Suraksha, which uses distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) through optical-fibre cables to detect elephant movement near railway tracks.
- How Gajraj Suraksha Works:
• Optical-fibre cables installed alongside railway tracks act as distributed acoustic sensors.
• Hardware and AI-based analysis identify patterns associated with elephant locomotion.
• The system generates alerts for locomotive pilots, station masters and railway control rooms.
• Railway and forest officials can coordinate warnings and take preventive action, including imposing speed restrictions or stopping trains where necessary. - Operational Coverage: According to the Ministry of Railways, the IDS was operational over 141 route kilometres on vulnerable sections of Northeast Frontier Railway as of 4 February 2026. Additional works had been sanctioned across several railway zones, including Northeast Frontier Railway, East Coast Railway, Southern Railway, Northern Railway, South Eastern Railway, North Eastern Railway, Western Railway and East Central Railway.
- Plan Bee: Plan Bee is a separate, low-cost honey-bee sound-based deterrent developed by Northeast Frontier Railway. The device emits a buzzing sound intended to discourage elephants from approaching railway tracks, particularly near level crossings.
- Innovation Award: The honey-bee sound-based innovation received the first prize in Indian Railways' Suggestion Scheme for Best Innovation for 2018–19.
- Coordinated Protection Measures: Other measures include elephant underpasses and ramps, trackside fencing, warning signage, vegetation clearance, solar-powered LED lighting, deployment of elephant trackers and trials of thermal-vision cameras.
- Results and Limitations: These systems improve early warning and provide time for railway staff to respond. However, they do not guarantee the elimination of all collisions, and results from one equipped stretch should not be generalised to the entire railway network.
